The Weekly Report – December 9, 2024
At our next workshop, strategy expert Steve Haarstad will show manufacturers how strategic planning can drive revenue.

A valuable New Year’s resolution for manufacturers would be to develop a written strategic plan. A first step toward that goal would be to attend our January 21 manufacturing workshop: Enhancing Your Strategic Planning and Implementation.

Enterprise Minnesota’s top strategy expert, Steve Haarstad, will show manufacturers how to navigate business challenges and achieve growth utilizing strategic planning.

The timing for this workshop couldn’t be better. Our latest State of Manufacturing® survey showed that nearly 50% of respondents do not have a formal strategic plan in place. But as Haarstad says, strategic planning gives leaders a clear direction for the company and provides more criteria to evaluate the short-term decisions that fuel long-term objectives.

Strategic planning is less time consuming, less complicated, and more valuable than you expect, Haarstad says.

It offers a direct avenue to engaging leaders and employees. “The outcome is a stronger, more unified team that’s in better alignment with the company’s direction,” he says.

The advantages of strategic planning ultimately flow to all employees, Haarstad says. “When employees know that a plan exists it gives a sense of security,” he says. “It also provides rationale to understand the decisions that are being made by company leaders.”

In decades of working with manufacturers to develop and executive strategic plans, Haarstad has learned that establishing a framework for thinking about strategy helps company leaders efficiently and effectively tailor a plan to their situation. Specifically, he encourages companies to keep four pillars in mind as they work to develop a formal plan: purpose, position, process, and people.

During the workshop, he will explain how participants can identify and emphasize these elements in their own planning. He’ll also share his insider tips, developed through years of working with manufacturers, to maximize the impact of strategic planning.

We hope you can join us from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21 in Shoreview.

You will learn:

  • Why strategic planning and thinking isn’t just for the CEO.
  • How to incorporate strategic rhythm into regular business activities.
  • How to simplify strategic plans to provide clarity for all levels of your business.
