Enterprise Minnesota sales, consulting, and marketing staff work from their homes and live throughout Minnesota. Executive and finance staff work primarily out of the corporate office in Minneapolis.

Position Purpose

The Accounting Manager is a member of the Finance Team. This position requires a solid understanding of GAAP accounting, with strong analytical, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. With a small team, each member is hands-on with their responsibilities, and critical to the success of the department and organization.

General Responsibilities and Accountabilities

The Accounting Manager shares the responsibility for the timely and accurate preparation and reporting of the organization’s financial condition through standard financial reports and special target audience reports and ensuring that the Accounting Associate and Senior Accountant has the appropriate tools, training, support, and feedback to perform their job accurately and efficiently.

Specifically

Financial Accounting, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Monthly and Annual financial close along with annual audit.
  • Analyze financial/operational data to track/trend performance.
  • Analyze project data to ensure accurate project allocations.
  • Prepare and publish operations reports on a scheduled basis.

Day to Day operations

  • Accounts Receivable –follow up on past due accounts.
  • Oversee the timely execution of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and other core accounting functions.
  • Cash tracking – forecasting.
  • Ensure that contracts are monitored to ensure compliance and appropriate documentation is submitted by staff.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Participate in the annual budget process – coordinating with leadership on their plans for the coming fiscal year.
  • Work with VP of Finance on regular forecasts to meet organizational needs and grant reporting requirements.

Fixed Assets

  • Maintain organizational fixed asset records, prepare necessary financial entries, and ensure that inventory is kept up to date for insurance purposes.
  • Coordinate tracking, recording, and acquisition of company leased vehicles.

Grant Reporting

  • Coordinate financial aspects of reporting granting partners, including State and regional granting agencies along with our Federal partner (NIST/MEP).
  • Coordinate annual/periodic operating plans for all granting partners.

Supervision/Leadership

Supervise the Senior Accountant and Accounting Associate including:

  • Provide support, training, and tools to enable them to complete their day-to-day activities; accurately, timely, and efficiently.
  • Evaluate on-going performance (along with annual performance review) and measure achievement of agreed upon goals related to incentive compensation.
  • Provide encouragement and opportunities to suggest process improvements, by allowing them to take ownership of their processes, role, and responsibilities.
  • Encourage growth in organizational/accounting knowledge as opportunities present themselves. Encourage engagement with other staff to better understand their roles and responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with a strong understanding of accounting and budgeting processes.
  • Proven technology skills around the Microsoft Suite including CRM and accounting software.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team player with a high level of individual initiative.

Preferred:

  • Managerial Experience.
  • Knowledge of non-profit or government accounting practices (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated ability to coach/influence staff members to advance processes and results.
  • Experience within a consulting services environment.
  • Federal/state grant compliance and management or similar experience.
