A Tailored Approach to ISO

The Weekly Report – October 14, 2024
Our next workshop will show manufacturers how to customize the ISO certification process to improve operations, drive customer satisfaction and boost employee engagement.

Manufacturers considering ISO will want to attend Amy Thimmesh’s November 7 online workshop, ISO 9001 Custom to Your Business. The event will provide a clear picture of the value ISO can bring to their company.

Amy draws on her experience in manufacturing operations, programming analysis, and leading teams of manufacturers through management, customer, and supplier audits. Prior to joining Enterprise Minnesota in 2023, Amy served as lead auditor and ISO implementation specialist at Alexandria Industries.

As everyone knows, ISO certification evolved over the years into an outstanding management tool that any company can use to improve its processes and better manage their business.

What many people don’t know is that ISO has also become more flexible, allowing companies to determine their own areas of focus. The documentation requirements under the new system are designed to capture useful data that can help companies improve decision making and quickly identify and correct errors. “Setting up this system is about understanding what your customer wants and where you want to go as an organization,” Thimmesh says.

Manufacturers pursue ISO certification for a variety of reasons, including customer requests and the opportunity to enter new markets. More OEMs are requiring their suppliers to earn the certification because it shows they follow processes that lead to predictable outcomes and quality products.

But the benefits of ISO typically go far beyond appealing to customers. Thimmesh will describe how ISO has become an extremely effective and flexible tool for standardizing business systems. “ISO business management systems can be tailored to the specific needs of the organizations,” she says. “We want to think about what matters and who matters, which helps to ensure alignment with that strategic direction.”

ISO also establishes consistency across operations, she says. “Standardized processes mean that everyone does everything the same way. That ensures that the customer knows what to expect from your organization.”

Thimmesh says one of the biggest benefits for companies going through ISO certification is the positive impact on culture. “This process boosts employee satisfaction by involving and engaging employees at each step. We work together to find best practices, implement, and improve on them,” she says.

“Just going through the process leads to better customer satisfaction and loyalty, increased employee engagement, more informed decision making, and a system for continuous improvement,” Thimmesh says.

We hope you can join us at the online Zoom workshop, from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 7.
